Andy Worhol said, "They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself."
And so I did. And things just keep on changing.
13 years ago, I made a crazy leap of faith decision to leave the big city life in San Antonio and settle down to raise my three daughters in a small town atmosphere where people value the "less is more" concept.
I wanted to sell real estate and live in a place where we could celebrate the simplicity of a delicious home cooked meal or a picnic basket at the river.
We could enjoy fresh picked peach pie or a glass of cold iced tea and a good book in the back yard.
Okay, so maybe you're thinking a cold beer and a fishing pole?
It's your life. Make it what YOU want.
A beautiful garden to grow or the sound of musicians strumming and jamming?
I wanted to live in a place where I could see the majesty of the moon and the stars.
Funny that I moved here to get back to basics, but then created for myself something not so simple.
I was Llano River Real Estate and then purchased a major real estate franchise and operated as RE/MAX BELIEVE for many years. I enjoyed a home away from home in the beautiful historic building on the square.
And I loved it.
For a season.
As a single mom, in a not so great economy, I found myself in over my head and realized that I had drifted not only into debt, but also away from my original goals of simplicity.
The stress of maintaining it all was really becoming too much and taking a toll on both my physical & mental health.
I had to remind myself that I came here in 1999 to explore my creative side, writing, music...etc...I came here with some God given purposes that I was too busy to do.
I wanted to live the happy, simple life that living in rural America brings to you.
You remember? Most of us grew up like this.
The life where you jump on your bike and ride to your friends house and go to the park and stop at the candy store or malt shop, the life where you take off and don't really have to be back home until the streets lights come on.
The life where you live adventurously as one with the land, building treehouses, skipping rocks at the river, planting gardens and laying on blankets with wide open spaces and staring up at the sky and waiting for a shooting star to make a wish upon...
Seriously, we do that here in Mason, Texas. And I almost always see at least one!
I call it Mayberry when I explain where I live to my friends. This is the place where everyone knows everyone and you get carpal tunnel of the wrist because you wave all day to people. :)
You can be as involved as you want to be or as un-involved as you want to be. There is something here for everyone and if you don't find it here, we are 40 miles from Fredericksburg and just 100 miles from Austin and San Antonio.
I've spent the last 13 years building up a wonderful client base who have now become close and dear friends. There is something special about the Texas hill country and Mason County.
Did you know that this is the home of Old Yeller? Old Yeller for gosh sakes!
It's an American Classic!
How cool is that??
I'm working at home now and aside from being too close to the fridge on a daily basis, I am absolutely loving it!
I have time to visit now, bake and make bread and share my garden plenty.
Also, I'm finally creating who I am called to be.
I've written a children's story called Pig's Big Adventure that will be out very soon. Check it out! (link coming soon)
Although I am no longer located on the town square, I am absolutely still doing real estate...It's been 22 years now that I've been in this business and I still love working with people!
